Small Classroom
In addition to Cycle 1 (3-6 yr olds), Peninsula Montessori Centre offers additional sessions per week for children aged 2½-3 yrs old. Sessions are currently run three mornings a week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 9.30am -12.00. Qualified staff prepare programs following the Montessori philosophy that are based on the individual learning needs of the children. It is expected that children will progress into the Cycle 1 classroom (Big Group) around the time of their third birthday, where similar concepts and ideas may be expanded and built upon.
The classroom is inviting, homely, and carefully prepared to entice the young child to explore and discover. We encourage the development of independence, self expression and individuality. Children have the opportunity to work uninterrupted in small groups or individually in a peaceful and respectful environment. They have access to both indoor and outdoor spaces, and the learning areas covered include language, culture, sensorial, practical life, art, music and movement.
We have two staff members in each session, both of whom are highly experienced in the Montessori philosophy. The Small Group classroom represents many home environment situations. There is an emphasis on spending time in this environment without a parent present. It is not a Playgroup situation where the parent attends sessions.
